Well, it sounds too good to be true: ‘A revolutionary new way to harness the power of the sun to extract clean and almost unlimited energy supplies will be a reality within seven years.’ That was the news put out this week by the University of New South Wales (UNSW). They say that scientists working on hydrogen energy systems believe that the technology could easily produce enough electricity for the whole country and Australia is in the perfect position to make the most of it. Jay Lamey spoke with Chris Sorrell, a UNSW scientist working on the project. He explained how the sun’s energy can be used to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, which means the dream of limitless and clean energy is edging ever closer.
