Chiapas Media Project
The Chiapas Media Project (CMP) is an award-winning collaboration between the US and Mexico that provides video and computer equipment and training to indigenous and campesino communities in Southern Mexico. The Chiapas Media Project have presented their videos at numerous universities, museums, and film and video festivals around the world. Alexandra Halkin, Documentary video producer and CMP Founding Director/International Coordinator is presenting the videos on tour. Presentations include discussion on the role of indigenous and campesino produced alternative media in the context of the current socio-political situation in Chiapas and Guerrero, indigenous video production in Latin America, and the Zapatista movement in Chiapas. Currently on tour, in Australia, you can catch new videos produced by indigenous video makers from Chiapas and Guerrero, Mexico. Look out for screenings in Sydney, Alice Springs, Melbourne and Brisbane, as well as Aboriginal media associations: CAAMA in Alice Springs and Warlpiri Media in Yuendumu.
