Human rights and Mental Health in the political context of contemporary Australia

A conference on human rights took place in Sydney yesterday and addressed an array of mental health issues with particular focus on disadvantaged groups such as refugees and indigenous people. The conference titled “Human rights and Mental Health in the political context of contemporary Australia” looked at the Tampa incident which took place over two years ago. The so-called “human cargo” are still stranded in Nauru, including 90 children, and the psychological effects of incarceration and uncertainty are having a detrimental effect on their health.
