The trial of building worker Ark Tribe began in Adelaide today which could see him serving six months jail for failing to speak before the Australian Building and Construction Commission. In 2008 Mr Tribe and his fellow workers raised concerns with their Union that the site they were working on was unsafe. When the ABCC requested an interview with Mr Tribe, asking him to reveal what he and his workmates said at the meeting, he refused to give evidence. If found guilty he will be the first person imprisoned under the Howard Government’s Industrial Relations laws.
