Imagine your life without regular access to food and clean water, missing out on education just because you’re a girl, or knowing at least one person who will die from HIV/AIDS. This is the every day life for many people living somewhere like Uganda, and yet we as westerners, see frequent images like this of Africa, and have become almost de-sensitised to them. Well one young Australian who wanted to do something about this, and saw first hand what these people go through is Maddy Dodd, who volunteers for an organisation called ‘One Village’. The Wire asked Maddy if her expectations met the reality when she travelled to the Ugandan community of Namwendwa earlier this year…
