The federal government took residents by surprise last week when it announced 400 asylum seekers will be housed in a new Adelaide Hills facility from December. Last night on the steps of Parliament House in Adelaide, a world wide peace movement, Women in Black, held a silent vigil to promote a warmer understanding of asylum seekers arriving in Australia. Representatives from Women in Black say the public reaction to the proposed centre is simply a case of misunderstanding about who the new arrivals are. Richard Evans spoke to Cathy Picone as she canvassed public support outside Parliament House.
