Astronomers in outback Western Australia have detected radio signatures dating back to the birth of the first stars in the universe.

This discovery of signals from an era known as the “Cosmic Dawn”, was made all the more extraordinary by the fact that it was picked up using a simple antenna no larger than a refrigerator.

How were physicists able to do this? And how is dark matter research affected?
