Japan regained nuclear-generated electricity early this morning as reactor 3 at the Oi Nuclear Power Plant on the Sea of Japan coast was connected to the generator and transmission grid. It’s only 16 months since the meltdown of the Fukushima nuclear plant and the restart has been met across Japan with protest and deep distrust.

Closer to Fukushima locals are still dealing with complete devastation and dangerous levels of radioactivity. Minimasoma is only 15 kilometres from the Fukushima plant.  With the help of a support group which supplies fresh fruit and vegetables locals are beginning to move back.
