The wide streets and gracious buildings of Narrandera in Southern New South Wales are a legacy of its rich history as an early grazing and farming area. Unfortunately Narrandera also has a dark and bloodthirsty past that hasn’t made it into the tourist brochures .

In the 1840’s nearby Murdering Island was the site of a massacre of 70 local Wiradjeri people When local school principal Noel Beddoe heard the horrific story he decided it needed to be told – and that he would  present it as popular culture by writing it as a novel. His book is called the Yalda Crossing.
