The Australian of the Year awards aim to recognise individuals making a positive contribution to their community, and no one is more deserving of the honour than Frank Mallard.

The West Australian Senior Australian of the Year recipient is an ex-serviceman and Yamatji elder who works with a number of charitable organisations and is an active member of his local RSL in Ellenbrook.

The national awards final will be held in Canberra on January 25.
