With a storytelling culture that spans 60,000 years, it’s no surprise that there is a wealth of comedy talent in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Deadly Comedy is Australia’s only comedy program for Australia’s traditional owners, and this year is its ninth year running. The competition draws talent from across the country, with state heats and finals are held in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane and Adelaide – culminating in the national finals held at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
