A cloud is hovering over the future of the independent Asbestos safety body responsible for tackling the threat of asbestos nation-wide. Support groups have been frantically lobbying the government to ensure that the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency remains operating after the Commission of Audit recommended its eradication. The Department of Employment says it’s committed to addressing the health risks associated with asbestos but a document released by the Finance Minister earlier this month has concerned support groups.
