UN fails to sign draft resolution on Russian Troops in Georgia

In addition to military action on the ground, the war on words between Russia, Georgia and NATO members is stepping up as Russia accuses NATO of taking an anti –Russian stance and NATO saying there can no longer be “business as usual” with the former Soviet state. The UN Security Council failed overnight to take a vote on a draft resolution demanding Russia comply with the terms of the ceasefire agreement brokered last week by French President Nicholas Sarcozy. As a permanent member of the Security Council, Russia has right of veto over any such resolution. Catherine Zengerer caught up with Professor of International Law at the Australian National University, Don Rothwell, who has been monitoring the situation, to find out the latest on the so-called withdrawal of Russian troops.
