The Law and Society Association of Australia and New Zealand, the Law & Literature Association of Australia and Griffith University’s Law School held an international ‘translegality’ conference in Brisbane this week. Experts across a range of disciplines spoke on topics from transgender issues, transnational justice to transacting a new social contract for Indigenous Australians. Professor Judith Jack Halberstam presented part of her unfinished book dealing with the concept of ‘queer negativity’ or failure as a form of resistance, when success is so focused on capital gain.
