A deal was finally struck today between Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin and the Tangentjere council in Alice springs. The Federal government will take a 40 year lease over Alice town camps in return for 50 million dollars being spent on cleaning them up. Lhere Artepe (Loora Toopa) is the organisation representing the traditional owners of the area. Director Darryl pearce says they’re angry about the deal which means they will have no say about how the money is spent. He says the 50 million will be spent only on infrastructure and not on addressing the social issues which the traditional owners believe need to be sorted out.
