Thailand’s political battle between pro-government supporters and the people’s alliance for democracy has taken a violent turn after a clash between anti-government demonstrators and pro-government loyalists resulted in the death of one person and several others injured. A threatened mass strike failed to materialize by Wednesday night, although hundreds of Bangkok schools and several regional airports remained closed.
