The stories not allowed to be told at Ubud Writers festival


Bali’s 1965 massacres weren’t the only no-go subjects at the Ubud Writers festival. As well as cancelling panel discussions dealing with that unsavoury part of the island’s past, authorities also banned a planned session on the current grassroots environmental movement Bali Tolak Reklamasi which is protesting the planned reclamation of 700 hectares of land by Indonesian developers .
