Malcolm Turnbull’s attempt to end the decade long climate wars could spell the end of his tenure. The Prime Minister announced changes to his National Energy Guarantee (NEG) this morning, which signaled a capitulation to backbenchers on the right of his own party, who care less about reducing carbon emissions, and more about reducing power prices.

The move has sparked debate about his leadership, with many in the media and some within the Liberal party, discussing replacing him with Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton.

Attempting to avoid the embarrassment of relying on the support of the Labor party to pass the NEG, Mr Turnbull is stuck between a rock and a hard place.
