A foreign bee threatens to alter Australia’s biodiversity, with serious consequences for our food industry. The Asian honeybee (Apis Cerana) was first discovered in Cairns in 2007.  An initial Queensland government attempt to eradicate the bee failed and the federal government endorsed a policy containing the bee to north Queensland.Key beekeeping experts now warn the containment policy could seriously affect up to 60% of Australia’s food production industry, and that eradication is the only real answer.
