Animal testing in Australia doesn’t really happen but products tested on animals still litter our shelves. Humane Research Australia would like to see animal testing in Australia and the sale of products tested on animals banned. On an international scale, interest in alternatives to animal testing is gaining momentum, according to Professor Thomas Hartung from the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore. When The Wire caught up with Professor Hartung on the first leg of his national speaking tour he said a cultural shift still needs to take place before more companies start using alternative methods.
