School bullying is most certainly not a thing of the past, and as young gay, lesbian and bisexual Australians are sadly discovering, abuse is presenting itself in numerous playgrounds. The ‘Growing Up Queer’ report from the University of Western Sydney has found that two thirds of all LGBTI youth face homophobic abuse. Out of the study’s 1000 sample size, 33 per cent of young LGBTI people have harmed themselves as a result of harassment and violence.
