Tech industry warns Government about rushing encryption bill

Peter Dutton has called for the Federal Government’s ‘Assistance and Access’ encryption bill to be passed before Christmas – a move that has seen a rare split between the two major parties on security matters.

Criticism of the bill from tech industry representatives and advocacy groups has been significant. They are concerned about how the bill will affect the privacy of the public and put unfair pressure on Australian tech companies to create work-arounds to decrypt communications.
