A new national health system promises to make pregnancies and birth safer for women in Australia. The Australasian Maternity Outcomes Surveillance System, or AMOSS, is collecting data on severe obstetric conditions to prevent certain illnesses of which some are causing death. Based at the University of New South Wales, the systems founders say their data will develop the expertise of maternity units around the country, ensuring better health for pregnant women.
