10 000 refugees made the news this morning because there are concerns this group will soon be demanding Australia’s hospitality. But why would Australians be concerned about this event if it did materalise? Perhaps media representations of the character of refugees has lead us to believe that this group will have a negative impact on the country’s wellbeing. In this story I spoke to Associate professor Sharon Pickering from Monash Univeristy about media representations of refugees and also Dr Roslyn Richardson, from Charles Sturt University, who asked Australian refugees what motivated them to come to Australia.
