Students stopped from watching the Cup due to concerns over gambling

The Melbourne Cup might be the race that stops a nation, but its also the busiest day in the nation’s TABs and other gambling venues. For most the day wouldn’t be complete without the odd flutter or two. But a handful of schools have banned the viewing of the Melbourne Cup during school hours saying it sends the wrong message about gambling. It comes as concerns mount about the increasing rate of youth gambling.
