Last night the Education Minister Simon Birmingham announced plans to reduce university funding in the tertiary education sector through an efficiency dividend that will see a $2.8 billion cut in funding and a gradual increase in cost of degrees for students.

Despite Birmingham describing the changes as “fair and measured” they have been slammed by university students.

The opposition to the cuts put the plan in a precarious position and has even drawn the ire of CEO of Universities Australia, Belinda Robinson.
