Family Doctor week is being celebrated around the country this week, with the theme “GPs are lifesavers”. During the week the Australian Medical Association has again called on smokers to give up the habit, saying tobacco smoking is the largest single preventative cause of death and disease in Australia. President of the A-M-A Dr Mukesh Haikerwal says it’s frustrating for doctors to see so many people taking up the habit, and he says the government needs to overcome its addiction to the tobacco tax dollar.
