Sri Lanka’s on-going ethnic conflict intensifies

The US yesterday made the announcement that it believes there’s no military solution to Sri Lanka’s ethnic strife. The comment follows months of intensifying hostility between the local government and rebel Tamil Tigers. It’s estimated 700 people have been killed this year. Sixty-four civilians alone were killed last month after a bus was blown up. But no one has yet claimed responsibility for the bomb attacks. Neil Smart asked South-East Asian analyst, Barry Pavier, whether there’s any evidence to suggest who is behind the violence.
