Thousands of single parents rallied across the country today against the government’s single parent payment cuts that came into effect in the New Year. Sole parent families were affected by further spending cuts when the federal government was still determined to deliver a surplus in 2012.

The cuts, which will see single parent families transferred onto Newstart Allowance when the youngest child turns eight, will be saving 782 million dollars over four years.Different stories were heard at all major cities about how sole parents were affected by the changes.
