The house of representatives will hold the first public hearing of its inquiry into the tax status environmental organisations next week. The inquiry began in april over concerns raised by Queensland LNP Senator Matthew Canavan over the supposed misuse of tax-deductible status by some of these groups. Mr Canavan and the inquiry Chair Liberal MP Alex Hawke claim to have found over 100 environmental groups on the Register of Environmental Organisations who shouldn’t be there. Environmental groups have responded saying the inquiry is thinly-disguised attack and want the terms of inquiry broadened to include mining lobby groups.
