Scientists are hosing down speculation about what a NASA scientist called a ‘discovery for the history books’ on the surface of Mars. In August this year NASA’s $2.5 billion dollar Curiosity rover landed inside Mars’ huge Gale Crater, and it has recently made a notable discovery. Last week NASA said that before they announce what the discovery is, they need to double check their data.

The mystery surrounding the discovery has led some observers to speculate that NASA has found evidence of life on Mars. But many scientists are warning that the discovery may be something a little more mundane.
