The federal government has cut short funding for the Gonski education restructuring program, and reigned back spending on education in general. The Gonski reforms were set to take six years to implement, but the Liberals announced in the budget last night that they wouldn’t commit to paying for them in their final two years, when most of the funding was supposed to be laid out. High schools are expected to lose out as a result, as they will now have to compete over resources – which may pose a difficulty for those in disadvantaged areas.
