The Federal governments Schoolkids budget bonus has been rejected as an appalling waste of money by campaign group, Save Our Schools. Around 1 million families with school children will receive a new cash payment as early as next month, to help pay for uniforms, books, excursions and other school costs. Parents groups have welcomed the news, but education lobby groups have criticized the scheme. Save Our Schools would rather see the money used to kick-start the Gonski report recommendations, instead of being used as a cash handout to parents. They say that there is no guarantee the money will make any difference to educational outcomes.
