Muckaty community living ‘under the nuclear cloud’

A rare glimpse into the everyday lives of people in the Indigenous community of Muckaty in the Northern Territory has been revealed at a photo exhibition in Sydney. For the past six years, the community has been living under the threat of being the site of Australia’s first permanent nuclear waste dump. Organisers say the goal of the exhibition is to raise awareness of the nuclear threat faced by this remote community, often described as being ‘in the middle of nowhere’.
