You’re young and experiencing your first love. The emotional roller coaster may be tough, but imagine trying to kindle those feelings against a backdrop of homelessness, poverty, domestic violence and substance abuse. “Samson and Delilah” is a new feature film which opened at the Adelaide Film Festival last week. It tells the story of two Aboriginal teenagers in a remote community, and the obstacles they face as they fall in love. Despite the harsh reality of the film, it has just won the Audience Award at the Festival. Catherine Zengerer asks writer and director Warwick Thornton why he thinks people liked it so much.
