The Federal government is under growing pressure to set up a royal commission into sex abuse within the Catholic Church, with Labor MPs backing the call by independent MPs and the Greens. Independent MP Nick Xenophon says the state inquiries in NSW and Victoria don’t go far enough and says a national response is needed. But an expert on royal commissions says they don’t always deliver the desired outcomes and can be a double-edged sword.
