When the British first colonized Australia, there were 250 indigenous languages. Many of those are now lost. But a new online site, launched today by the NSW State Library, hopes to resurrect some of those that were extinct. Archival material from colonial records, kept by surveyors, shearers and others, have been digitized and uploaded to web.
