A new report has found that switching the world’s electricity sources to 70% renewable energy by 2050 is not only feasible but its economically viable. The report by Greenpeace and the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC) found that mandating that 70% of the world’s electricity come from renewable sources like wind and solar would cut the global emissions produced by the electricity sector by 60% ? thereby significantly helping to reduce global warming. Making the switch would cost 600 billion dollars more than continuing to rely on coal-powered electricity stations. However, in the long run, the world would be saved $5.4 trillion in raw material energy costs.
