A year ago today asylum seeker Reza Berati died after he was brutally bashed to death in Australia’s Manus Island Detention Centre, and people around the country are vowing to light the dark with candles to mark the date. Activists say that conditions in detention have worsened since the incident on Manus Island last year. But there is hope that more Australians are getting involved in grass-roots movements to create change.
