Omura’s whale is extremely rare and very little is known about its life cycle and migration patterns. Scientists are hoping that the carcass of a young female found on a remote beach in Western Australian will provide new information about this mysterious species. Dr Tadasu Yamada from the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo was one of the scientists who identified Omura’s whale as a new species in 2003.
