The proposed legislation to be tabled in parliament next week will allow eligible Queenslanders suffering from terminal illnesses to have a say in how the die, if they are passed.

This will be a historical first for Queensland, which is the only jurisdiction in Australia which hasn’t previously debated voluntary assisted dying in parliament. The proposed bill will be similar to existing legislation in other parts of Australia, but will be set apart by its approach to eligibility and conscientious objection.
