The Masked Owl is the second largest nocturnal bird in Australia, and notoriously elusive.

There’s a dearth of research on the bird, which means conservationists struggle to document and preserve its population.

A crowdfunding campaign, led by the Difficult Bird Research Group, has provided funds for a new initiative to learn more about these birds, involving a four-legged assistant.
