20 years on from the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody, Indigenous young people are still 28 times likelier to end up in jail than non-Indigenous youth. A damning report released by the House of Representatives’ committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs has made 40 recommendations aimed at combating the prevalence of Aboriginal youth in our prisons. But will the recommendations solve the problem?
