Prison Radio Helping Communities To Connect
The UK has an extensive prison radio network that can reach up to 81,000 listeners, with 45% of prisoners who listen every day. Not only does it provide an outlet for prisoners to produce and listen to, but it can also provide valuable information for those about to re-enter society, and it can help connect prisoners with their friends and loved ones.
While Australia does have its own community radio programs dedicated to prisoners, these are usually made by isolated groups of volunteers. But, the UK’s Chief Executive of the Prison Radio Association Phil Maguire has made an appearance at the CBAA conference to help unite these isolated programs.
