Despite strong opposition from parts of the Labor party today, the Julia Gillard has announced that the government will dig its heels in on the Malaysian solution. But that requires changes to the law, and one expert says that even after the changes, the plan to send asylum seekers to Malaysia could fall foul of other existing laws that protect the rights of children.
