A new research by The Australia Institute found out Australia could benefit from imposing a tax on plastic packaging.

Countries around Europe have implemented the same scheme, and the research showed Australia could raise $1.5 billion a year with the levy, equivalent to $1300 per tonne.

Around 85 per cent of Australians support the idea to reduce plastic waste by a tax, which could strengthen a circular economy.
