“Physically impossible to deal with a pandemic inside a prison”

Calls have been mounting for low risk prisoners and those who are vulnerable to Covid-19 to be released from prisons, citing overcrowding as a major risk factor for transmission.

Yesterday The Wire learnt that prisoners are having difficulty accessing PPE, meanwhile locking down the environment will not prevent prisoners contracting the virus.

Concerns remain around the inadequate health services and hygiene protocols in correctional facilities.
