NSW Liberals plan to lower age of criminal responsibility

Ten-year-olds could end up in juvenile custody, if the NSW Liberal Opposition wins office at the up coming state election. As part of the state election campaign, Liberal Opposition Leader, Peter Debnam, intends to lower the age of criminal responsibility from age 14 to 10, in a bid to get tough on crime. But those working with young offenders have hit out at that the plans, claiming they will simply land more children in custody without reducing crime, with indigenous offenders likely to be hardest hit.
