Indigenous communities in Cape York have a new Rugby League competition. With five teams involved, the first round began in Doomagee on August 5. The competiton is the result of 8-years ground work from many people in the Cape, convincing communities and QLD Rugby League to establish an association body that can have its own organised games of Rugby League. The Chairman of the Gulf Community’s Rugby League Association, Mike Stevenson, who is based at Normanton, was instrumental in establishing the competition. The Wire asks him which communities were involved in the competition.
