Could not-for-profits revitalise Australian journalism?

The Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance estimates there have been over 2500 journalism jobs lost in Australia over the past five years.

Right now the Senate is inquiring into the future of public interest journalism.

One idea is to allow public interest reporting organisations to acquire charitable status to entice donors to fund quality journalism.

So could it work?
